Some Questions You Might Have About Our Catering...

Question
HOW MUCH BEEF WILL I NEED?

Answer
Here in the Midwest most of our parties are served family style. Meaning Aunt Phyllis makes her Cole slaw, Grandma Joanie makes her meatballs, cousin Vinnie brings desert etc. Estimating how much beef is easy here at Dukes we typically get 4 or 5 sandwiches per pound but at parties, we tell our customers they should get 7 or 8 sandwiches per pound. Usually Beef is accompanied by some other entrée, so figure 3 pounds will serve about 20 people if other meats are served. If it’s only going to be “Dukes Italian Beef” as the main course, figure 3 pounds will feed about 15 people.

HOW ABOUT BREAD?

Answer
We recommend 1 loaf of bread to 1 pound of beef. We get 6 sandwiches per loaf here at Dukes but our sandwich is 6 inches long. For parties we recommend you cut the bread to make about 8 sandwiches per pound about 4 – 41/2 inches.

DO YOU SELL YOUR DELICIOUS SWEET PEPPERS?

Answer
Yes, we do. They come in 1-quart size or ½ gallon containers. As with most of our food we roast our peppers ourselves we “Pop” the peppers, season, and roast them here in the store, we recommend 1 quart for 3 – 5 pounds of beef. ½ gallon for 5 pounds and over.

DO YOU SELL YOUR FAMOUS GIARDINIERA?

Yes we do. It also is homemade using our secret recipe of fresh veggies and spices. It is not for the faint of heart!!! It’s Hot Giardinerra meant for Italian Beef and Sausage Sandwiches. We have 8 oz. and 12 oz. containers.

DO YOU SELL YOUR RED SAUCE?

Absolutely!! Our Red Gravy is homemade from scratch right here in our store. It’s delicious on our Beef, Sausage, with our Meatballs or cook your favorite pasta and use our delicious Red Gravy as your sauce. Your guests will love it. It’s available in 1 quart and ½ gallon containers.

It sure is. Both are from scratch made fresh in our store. We challenge you to find a better, heartier, bowl of homemade Beef Vegetable Soup anywhere in the Midwest!! Our Chili will warm you up on a cold winter day, or make a great Chili Dog anytime of the year.


We cook, trim and slice our own beef everyday. It’s a tedious process but worth every minute of our time to bring you the freshest, best tasting Italian Beef sandwich around!!! The same family has made our Italian Sausage since we opened, in 1975. They deliver it fresh to us daily! We serve our sandwich on Gonnella Bread also delivered daily, along with Rosen’s Buns for our hamburgers and David Berg Hot Dogs. We make our own Giardinera, Sweet Peppers, Red Gravy, Chili, and Beef Vegetable Soup. There’s always something cookin on our stove daily!!!
